Would you like a spot of tea, Mommy? One of my daughter’s favorite activities is to get dressed up and play tea party with me and her dollies. She loves pouring me tea while I casually chat with the other tea party guests, Minnie and Rapunzel, of course.
This month our pretend tea party came to life. For my birthday, my husband planned a tea party lunch with my family at Mulberry House Restaurant in Westfield, NJ. It was such a nice experience and the food was delicious!
We arrived at Mulberry House around 11:30am during the week and did not have any difficulty parking. I would imagine weekend parking, especially during brunch time, would be much busier. Mulberry House has approximately 15 or so metered parking spaces right in front of the restaurant. There is additional on street parking on Westfield Avenue and the surrounding streets.
Mulberry House Restaurant is housed in a charming little blue Victorian home built in the early 1900′s. It provides a quaint, cozy atmosphere to share a pot of tea, brunch, lunch, or farm to table fine dining.
Upon entering, there is a Tea Bar with various tea selections for the week and a lower level dining area. The various dining rooms are often used for bridal and baby showers and parties, so I would suggest making reservations, especially on the weekend for brunch or dinner.
These brightly colored tea pots on display were a hit with my daughter!
We were led upstairs to a bright sunlit yellow dining area with lots of windows, and seated in the main room. The upstairs has three dining areas, the main room and two adjacent rooms, which all together can seat up to 50 people. I have to admit, I was a little nervous bringing my not-so-prim-and-proper 2.5 year old and infant son to tea, but the atmosphere of Mulberry was very casual and relaxed. Plus, it was quiet at 11:30am mid-week, which gave us the special feel of having the whole place to ourselves.
When we were settled, we looked over the extensive selection of teas and delicious menu options. I decided on a chocolate covered strawberry white tea and we also decided to try the raspberry black tea.
G got her very own tea pot filled with her favorite “tea”, milk. She loved sipping from her tea cup and using her table manners, which miraculously appeared at the touch of the tea pot.
We ordered the Tea Stand for 2 and the Kids Tea Stand from the Mulberry House Tea Service & Lunch Menu, which is served Tuesday-Friday from 11am-4pm.
We had soup, salad, tea sandwiches, scones, & sweets with our tea. The food was so delicious! Compliments to Chef Anders, who prepared our food with the freshest farm to table ingredients, and let us taste all the desserts!

Tea Stand for 2 $34 Choice of Soup or Salad per, 3 Scones, 3 Tea Sandwiches, & 3 Sweets; Pot of Tea per person or share a Larger Pot which serves 2-3 guests
G got her very own Kids Tea Stand. One of the day’s specials were blueberry scones, which she was delighted to slather with clotted cream and homemade jam.

Tea Stand for Kids $12
Choice of 1 Scone, 2 Sandwiches, & 1 Sweet; Options for Sandwiches include Grilled Cheese, PB&J, Jelly & Cream Cheese, or Nutella
I’m a little hesitant to admit it, but, we ate everything. It all was just so good. Our awesome server, Danny, clearly underestimated our eating capabilities; when explaining the generous portion sizes, he had told us we would likely have leftovers to take home. Most families would…I’m kind of sad we didn’t!
I guess we will just have to come back! We will definitely return to Mulberry House Restaurant.
Mulberry House offers several Young Ladies Tea Party packages. There are several adorable birthday party packages starting at $15 p/p like Mommy & Me Tea Party, My Friends & Me Tea Party, Alice in Wonderland Tea Party, or After-School Tea Party. Imagine a table of little girls sipping tea with their dollies in pearls and tiaras-too cute!
For moms who have children in Girl Scouts, Mulberry House is available to host the Girl Scouts for etiquette classes, where they can learn table setting and napkin folding, to earn their “manner” badge, then practice what they learned while indulging in their Tea Stands.
Even though I’m in my 30′s, I’m still a kid when it comes to celebrating birthdays. I want to go out and I want to do something fun with my family! Tea Service & lunch at Mulberry was a great excuse to get dressed up and celebrate in a unique way with my family.
Talk about it
